Apply for Accommodations
Accessibility and Testing at the University of Georgia is committed to providing equal access for students with disabilities at UGA.
It is important to keep in mind that the registration process can take 1 to 4 weeks. The timeline depends on a number of different factors, including the nature of the requested accommodations, the evaluation of supporting documentation, and the availability of coordinators for scheduling appointments.
We advise students to start the registration process as early as possible. Incoming 1st year students or transfer students are advised to start the process as soon as they have been admitted to UGA. Current UGA students should contact the DRC as soon as they have established a need for accommodations. Feel free to watch our “How to Register for Services” video.
Accommodations are not applied retroactively, so it is important to begin the process as soon as possible.
Important Information about the Registration Process
All accommodation requests are evaluated on an individualized basis via an interactive process with the student and their disability coordinator. There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach. Each student’s situation is reviewed based on their specific needs.
All information and any documentation submitted to Accessibility and Testing is kept separate from a student’s academic record and is considered private information under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
If you have questions about the registration process, the application, or documentation guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact our office. An on-call coordinator is available to provide any additional information needed regarding this process.
In order to register for services at Accessibility and Testing, please complete the following steps:
1. Submit an application
The student application is available online. The application contains a series of questions designed to provide more information about your diagnosis, current academic impacts, previously used accommodations, and requested accommodations for UGA. You should receive an email confirmation upon submission of your application. If you do not receive an email, please contact our office.
Note: If you require this application in an alternative format, please use the PDF version: Student Application Alternate Form.
2. Submit supporting disability documentation
Documentation is needed to establish the nature of a student’s disability, as well as the academic impact, in order to support the requested accommodations. Please review the Documentation Guidelines.
Documentation can be submitted electronically via the AIM Student Portal, or by emailing drc@uga.edu. Paper copies can be submitted by fax at 706-542-7719, or in person at Clark Howell Hall / 825 South Lumpkin St.
3. Attend a virtual interview with your Accessibility and Testing coordinator
Once you have completed your application, it will be reviewed by the Accessibility and Testing Intake Team. If any additional information is needed, we will follow up via your UGA email address. This review process can take time; if you have any questions about the status of your application, you can always contact our office.
Once the review process is complete, you will be assigned to a disability coordinator. They will contact you via email to schedule an initial interview. This is where you will discuss accommodations in more detail and develop a plan for putting them into place.
