Director Dr. Karen Kalivoda
Dr. Kalivoda carries three distinct job titles at the University of Georgia: Director of the Disability Resource Center, Director of University Testing Services, and Adjunct Faculty for the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services in the College of Education. She received her doctorate from the Institute of Higher Education at UGA in 1991.
Since 1985, the Disability Resource Center has experienced dramatic growth under Dr. Kalivoda's leadership and now offers the most comprehensive services in the southeast. As the primary University resource for disability-related concerns, Dr. Kalivoda's expertise has been instrumental in the University's response to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Dr. Kalivoda was also named Director of University Testing Services in 2004. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing all aspects of the department, including: computer-based testing, the Independent Study/Distance Learning Testing Program, Regents Testing, Advance Placement Testing, departmental entrance or exit exams for degree programs, test scoring, and faculty evaluation services.
In her role as adjunct faculty for the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, supervises counseling internships and serves on doctoral dissertation committees. Research interests include the implementation of Universal Instructional Design in Higher Education and the Theory of Planned Behavior as applied to faculty attitude in accommodating students with disabilities. Dr. Kalivoda is published in regional and national journals and presents at the local, state, and national level.
