Sign Language Interpreters
Professional sign language interpreters at UGA provide services to students who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing. Interpreters take voiced English information and interpret it into American Sign Language (ASL) and also interpret ASL to voiced English. Sign language interpreting is conducted in a variety of settings such as academic classes, lectures, meetings with faculty and staff and other university-sponsored events. Sign language interpreters also consult with faculty and staff, providing information regarding the role of the educational interpreter in the classroom. UGA professional sign language interpreters stay abreast of current issues and trends related to interpreting and Deafness. Doing so allows them to be utilized as a resource for the University, the surrounding community and the other educational institutions. Other responsibilities include interpreting for the President, faculty and staff functions and other events on campus.
