Definition of a Disability

To be eligible for services, the diagnoses must satisfy the definition of disability as established by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 504 defines disability as a condition which substantially limits one or more major life activities such as walking, seeing, hearing, breathing, caring for oneself, learning and working. A diagnosis alone does not warrant consideration for services and accommodations; one of the major life activities listed above must also be substantially limited.
