Services for Students with Chronic Health Impairments
Chronic health impairments include such disabilities as cystic fibrosis, diabetes, asthma, lupus, sickle cell anemia, Crohn's disease, cancer, AIDS, hemophilia, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. These diseases may require specialized treatments and hospitalization or bed rest during acute phases. As well, chronic health conditions can affect cognitive function, motor function, and energy levels. Accommodations for these types of conditions vary greatly depending on specific needs.
Services may include:
- Auxiliary Aid Services
- Regularly scheduled meetings to monitor academic progress and issues related to the disability
- Assistance in consulting with faculty to advocate for student needs
- Student support groups
- Priority registration
- Access to the Disabled Student Transportation Services
- Parking Services
- Access to the Assistive Technology Lab
- Tutorial referrals
- Referral as needed to other Campus Resources
- Referral as needed to community agencies and resources
